CAIRO, March 22, 2018 - Suez Canal's revenues increased by 15 per cent to US$887 million during January and February, 2018, compared with US$771 million during the same period the previous year, the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) Admiral Mohab Mamish announced on Thursday.
In his meeting with the CEO of the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), Admiral Mamish said that the total volume of cargo transiting the canal increased to 171.2 million tonnes during the months of January and February, 2018 compared to 154 million tonnes during the same period a year earlier, an increase of 17.2 million tonnes.
The increase in the number of the ships and the volume of cargo transiting the canal reflects the positive impact of the New Suez Canal Project and the flexible marketing policy adopted by the authority, Admiral Mamish said.
Admiral Mamish added that the Suez Canal Authority is committed to the development of Sinai through the implementation of the a number of tunnels and bridges connecting east and west of the canal.
Admiral Mamish appreciated the active role played by the world largest container shipping company Maersk through co-operation with Suez Canal Container Terminal, that led to raising the ranking of East Port Said Port which is one of the main components of the Suez Canal Development Project.
