NEW YORK, March 13, 2018 - THE Chairwoman of the Egyptian National Council for Women (NCW), Maya Morsy, on Tuesday delivered a speech at the 62nd session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. At her speech, Morsy talked about the Cairo government's efforts to improve the social and economic status of peasant women. Morsy said: "The government has allocated LE250 million for upgrading infrastructure in rural areas, running adult education programmes, and launching social initiatives for supporting millions of women in poor villages." The NCW's Chairwoman also noted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi had already approved the 2030 national strategy, which includes women's empowerment in all domains. The 2030 national strategy targets women from different segments including those with special needs. Morsy said that among the NCW's recent efforts for women's empowerment was the establishment of 27 associations for female community leaders in the villages nationwide.
