Head of National Council of Women, Dr. Maya Morsi, witnessed Tuesday signing of an European Union (EU) grant agreement to promote women's rights in Egypt. The 10-million euro grant was signed by Egyptian Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, Sahar Nasr, and EU General Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations, Mr. Christian Danielson. Morsi said the agreement comes within the framework of the National Strategy for Women Empowerment 2030, which contributes to women's economic, political and legislative empowerment and supports women to reach justice in all fields. She pointed out that National Council for Women is coordinating between state agencies to implement this strategy, that has four axes--social, political, economic and protection axes. She congratulated National Council for Population that is concerned with the female genital mutilation on this agreement. She also praised rapid response from Ministry of International Cooperation to the directives of President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi to declare 2017 a year of Egyptian Women. She also praised procedures to integrate women into all agreements to be signed by Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation. Dr. Sahar Nasr explained that this agreement aims at contributing to the implementation of the national strategy to prevent female circumcision and further empower the role of the family.
