CAIRO, March 13, 2018 - The industrial output, excluding crude oil and refining, increased by 6.1 per cent in the second quarter of 2017, reaching LE135.5 billion compared to LE127.7 billion during the same period a year earlier, the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced yesterday. The food industry takes first place, constituting 24.6 per cent of the total output, followed by the steel and heavy metal industries at 15.9 per cent, according to CAPMAS. The chemicals, fertilisers and fibre industries constituted around 10.5 per cent of the total industrial output (excluding crude oil and refining). The value electronic devices production and the related services reached around LE1.8 billion in the second quarter compared to LE1.6 billion in the first quarter of 2017. The increase stemmed from urban expansion in the new cities, the report said. The value of ready-made clothes decreased by 10.5 per cent to LE2.6 billion in the same period against LE2.9 billion during the same period a year earlier.
