Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population announced on Sunday that the total number of visits recorded under the presidential sustainable initiative for women's health support has reached 57,780,622 since its launch in July 2019 until the end of February 2025.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry's official spokesperson, stated that the visits included 22.5 million first-time visits, 22.7 million periodic visits, and 12.4 million occasional visits, showcasing the widespread impact of the initiative on the healthcare of women in Egypt.
The initiative provides free screening services for women through 3,663 health units across all governorates, in addition to 102 hospitals offering advanced examinations for cases requiring further evaluation. Abdel Ghaffar also highlighted that 790,475 women have undergone advanced screenings as part of the programme, which focuses on early detection and prevention.
Targeting women aged 18 and above, the initiative includes screenings for non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, alongside body mass index (BMI) measurements, reproductive health education, and family planning awareness.
The spokesperson further explained that the initiative adheres to the latest global protocols for breast cancer treatment. It offers free treatment in 14 centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health and another 14 centers under the Supreme Council of University Hospitals. These centers are also being prepared for applied research in cancer treatment.
Hatem Amin, the initiative's executive director, reported that since its launch, 31,842 breast cancer cases have been detected. The initiative has conducted 423,937 mammograms and collected 48,682 tumor samples for analysis. Confirmed cases have received free treatment through the programme.
Amin added that the initiative ensures continued care for women diagnosed with breast cancer, either through health insurance or the state-funded treatment system. In addition, 30,005 medical staff members have been trained under the programme, and the initiative has received 27,731 inquiry calls through its dedicated hotline, "100 Million Healthy Lives," at 15335.
