Trade exchange between Egypt, Russia reaches $4.7bn in 2022: CAPMAS

The trade exchange between Egypt and Russia increased to $4.7bn in 2022, compared to $4.1bn in 2021, an increase of 16.2%, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The agency indicated, in a report issued Wednesday, that the value of Egyptian exports to Russia increased to $595.1m in 2022, compared to $489.6m in 2021, an increase of 21.6%, while the value of Egyptian imports from Russia amounted to $4.1bn, compared to $3.6bn, an increase of 15.5%.
Fruits ranked first among the top 10 commodity groups that Egypt exported to Russia during the year 2022 with a value of $302.3m, then vegetables and plants with a value of $207.2m, then soap with a value of $11.8m, then machinery, appliances and electrical equipment with a value of $10.7m, then seeds and fruits oil worth $10.3m.
Egypt's exports of plastics and their manufactures amounted to $7.7m, then vegetable preparations worth $7.4m, then dairy at a value of $5.5m, then salt and sulfur with a value of $4.3m, then aromatic oils with a value of $3.4m.
Grains came at the forefront of the top 10 commodity groups that Egypt imported from Russia during 2022 with a value of $2.1bn, followed by wood and its articles with a value of $422.1m, then animal and vegetable fats and oils with a value of $363.7m, iron and steel with a value of $362.8m, and mineral fuels, mineral oils and their distillation products with a value of $177.4m.
Other imports were books and picture with a value of $121.7m; machinery, appliances and electrical equipment with a value of $119.2m; articles of iron or steel with a value of $104.6m; copper and its articles with a value of $46m, and various chemical products with a value of $35.2m.
According to the agency, the value of Russian investments in Egypt amounted to $34.5m during the fiscal year 2021/22, compared to $14.1m during the fiscal year 2020/2021, an increase of 145.2%.
It indicated that the value of remittances of Egyptians working in Russia reached $16.4m during the fiscal year 2021/22, compared to $12.4m during the fiscal year 2020/2021, an increase of 32.3%, while the value of remittances from Russians working in Egypt amounted to $23.7m, compared to $29.5m, a decrease of 19.6%.
