Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met Saturday with Osama Rabie, the Chairperson of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), to follow up on the projects and activities of the authority, where the president was briefed on the navigation rate in the Suez Canal in 2021/22. The meeting witnessed a presentation of the efforts of the Suez Canal Authority to localize the manufacture of fishing vessels. Discussions also included the replacement of primitive wooden boats currently used in Lake Manzala and other lakes adjacent to Suez Canal, with modern boats equipped with modern fishing tools and coolers for storing fish. During the meeting, Rabie confirmed that the new Suez Canal corridor and the continuous development of the main corridor enhanced the canal's capabilities as a global waterway for trade that supports the country's national economy. According to Rabie, the canal achieved unprecedented records in terms of annual revenue ($7bn), the highest transit rate of ships, and the highest net tonnage of nearly 1.32 billion tonnes. The canal could also allow the passage of new generation giant container ships. Moreover, Rabie presented the axes of developing the southern sector of the navigation course of the canal, as part of the regular efforts to raise the efficiency of the infrastructure of the Suez Canal with the aim of increasing and improving the navigation and international trade transiting it. He also reviewed the Suez Canal Authority's strategy to activate the yacht tourism movement and develop its ports, and support it with all the logistics and services necessary to enhance Egypt's capabilities as a corridor for receiving and transiting yachts due to its distinguished location on the Red and Mediterranean Seas. Logistics included fuel, electricity, and water supplies, quick maintenance, and yacht parking services.
