President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Tuesday received Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, and a number of company officials in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla.
Bassam Radi, spokesperson for the presidency, said that the meeting dealt with a review of the current and future activity of the Italian company in Egypt in the fields of gas and oil exploration and production, and cooperation in the field of renewable energy projects, in order to consolidate Egypt's transformation into a regional centre for energy of all kinds.
The president directed to continue strengthening the fruitful cooperation with Eni, expressing appreciation for the existing partnership with the company and its various activities.
President Al-Sisi also expressed his aspiration for the company to continue its activity in the field of research and exploration in order to achieve the optimal exploitation of Egypt's resources from the energy sector.
Descalzi praised the joint cooperation with Egypt and the discoveries and positive results achieved during the past years under the leadership and close personal follow-up by the president, which had a great impact on the speed of the company's success in the production of Egyptian natural gas, making Egypt currently one of the main regional countries in the energy production sector, at a time when the world is witnessing a severe crisis in this field.
Minister El-Molla reviewed the developments of the various projects implemented by the Italian company in Egypt, in cooperation between the company and government agencies, especially with regard to the production of natural gas in Egypt from the Zohr field, as well as the export of liquefied gas based on the liquefaction plants in Edco and Damietta, which are currently operating at full efficiency.
He added that this sector has achieved a great boom for Egypt and has become a pivotal place in the Mediterranean region, within the framework of Egypt's vision to become a regional energy center.
Descalzi also reviewed the integrated plan of cooperation with Egypt in the new and renewable energy sector, especially wind and solar energy, by establishing a set of joint projects aimed at producing about 10GW in the coming years, in integration with Egypt's strategy for green transformation and increasing the proportion of the renewable energy mix.
