Published in Daily News Egypt on 23 - 08 - 2022

Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour, held a meeting via video conference to follow up on the Remote Diagnosis of Patients initiative, within the framework of the country's strategy for digital transformation.
During the meeting, the attendees discussed the progress of work in the first phase of the initiative, with a capacity of 150 diagnostic units, which has been in operation since September 2021, within the 300 units targeted to be established nationwide.
The Minister of Health and Population stressed the importance of continuous follow-up on the system. The initiative allows patients to consult specialists anytime and anywhere, through modern applications and technologies.
The Minister also reviewed the mechanisms for linking units to various hospitals of the Ministry of Health, university hospitals, and main treatment centres, to provide medical consultations to patients, stressing the importance of synergy and integration between the relevant ministries, to complete the initiative.
For his part, the Minister of Communications said that the initiative to establish 300 remote diagnostic units represents a model for close cooperation between the ministries to adopt modern technology and use remote diagnosis applications to develop medical and health services in remote areas through technological linking of health units in these areas with central units in university hospitals.
Ayman Ashour indicated that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is participating in this project through the university hospital system, which includes 120 university hospitals, pointing to cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Population to develop the medical system in Egypt, as well as cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to automate university hospitals, and link them together in a single digital system.
