Ministers of Tourism and Antiquities, Local Development, and Environment —Khaled El-Anany, Mahmoud Shaarawy, and Yasmine Fouad, respectively — met on Monday to discuss preparations for Egypt's hosting of the 27th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP 27) The meeting also discussed the latest developments in transforming Sharm El-Sheikh into a green, environmentally friendly city, in addition to discussing mechanisms for the safe disposal of waste for hotel and tourist facilities in the city. During the meeting, the developments of the integrated waste management system in Sharm El-Sheikh were reviewed in addition to a presentation of a number of infrastructure projects and proposals to develop this system and safely dispose of waste for hotel and tourism facilities. It also reviewed the results of ongoing discussions with companies wishing to work in the solid waste system in South Sinai to raise the efficiency of collection, transport, treatment, and recycling of waste, including providing these services to hotel and tourist establishments in Sharm El-Sheikh. According to a joint statement, the ministers said that they also addressed tourism preparations for the conference, including proposals for tourist visits that will be organised for the delegations participating in the conference to allow them to enjoy the distinct and diverse tourism potentials enjoyed by the Egyptian tourist destination. Green tourism programmes were also discussed, as the climate conference will deal with issues closely related to tourism and antiquities.
