Secretary-General of the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development (EAPD) Mohamed Khalil met on Wednesday with world renowned cardiologist Dr. Magdy Yacoub. The meeting is part of a follow-up to cooperative activities that have taken place since the signing of a memorandum of understanding to lay the foundation stone for the establishment of the Egypt-Rwanda Heart Centre in December 2021 on the side-lines of Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry's visit to Kigali. Khalil explained that the cooperation project with the Magdy Yacoub Foundation is considered the most prominent development project within the framework of the agency's medical diplomacy in Africa. He also pointed out that Egypt aspires to have the Egypt-Rwanda Heart Disease Centre become a regional centre for treatment, training, and research, and a symbol of Egypt's role in promoting African solidarity and supporting the countries of the continent in achieving the UN's sustainable development goals (SDGs) and Africa's 2063 Agenda. Furthermore, the meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation in a number of areas related to providing technical support to African countries in the field of prevention and treatment of heart diseases. It also addressed the the provision of medical devices and equipment needed to treat heart patients in African countries, training African doctors at the Aswan Heart Centre, as well as performing some surgeries for difficult cases at the centre. This comes within the framework of the assistance provided by the EAPD as a development tool by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Magdy Yacoub Foundation's welcome to provide its expertise and capabilities to African countries in cooperation with the EAPD.
