President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met on Monday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat.
Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady stated that the meeting dealt with "the follow-up of national projects related to the communications and information technology sector."
This comes within the framework of the ministry's plans to take part in the state's efforts to develop Egyptians, contribute to the government's plan for digital transformation, enhance the state's capabilities, and support efforts to promote development in Egypt.
In this context, the president addressed the continued development of the telecommunications and information technology sector and its infrastructure as one of the pillars of the country's economic and social growth as well as its important role in providing the best services to citizens.
The president also directed the promotion of investment in human resources and the provision of training, qualification, and capacity-building programmes for the use of the best modern technology and the provision of various services electronically, in accordance with the modern requirements of the labour market.
Minister Talaat presented the executive position of a number of projects in the communications and information technology sector with the aim of strengthening the focus of developing Egyptians, Rady said.
These included the progress of the study process at Egypt's Information University, the scholarships offered in this context for the first of the general secondary schools to enrol in it, as well as a project to establish a City of Knowledge in the New Administrative Capital (NAC).
Furthermore, Talaat presented developments in the implementation of the "Digital Egypt" initiative, which aims to support government performance by providing the latest digital services to citizens at the national level, in addition to preparing a digital examination system and mechanising university hospitals.
He also reviewed the executive position of digital infrastructure and information services in their various axes in the NAC.
With regard to efforts to maximise the capacities of the state and promote development, Talaat also reviewed the latest developments concerning projects to produce tablet computers and fibre-optic cables.
All this comes amid efforts to improve the design and manufacture of electronics in Egypt by deepening local manufacturing, in addition to efforts to develop the internet infrastructure in the country, as well as raise the efficiency of post offices by providing them with banking services.
