UN Adviser to Libya Stephanie Williams has continued her meetings with major parties in Libya to set a new date for the Libyan elections. "The UN stands ready to assist Libyans in overcoming all difficulties and creating appropriate conditions as soon as possible in order to ensure the holding of free, fair and credible elections," she said. "I want to stress that the members of Parliament – about 170 regular members – now have a historic and national responsibility to respond quickly and efficiently to the recommendations of the High National Electoral Commission," Williams said. "Decisions on the date of elections and on the eligibility of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi to participate in elections are a special matter of the judiciary," she said, calling on all parties to comply with the rulings issued by the judiciary. Meanwhile, Head of Libya's Supreme Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri, called on the House of Representatives on Sunday to not take any step regarding the elections individually without consulting the Council, saying that this step will be doomed to failure. He pointed out that there is communication and attempts to resolve the crisis with the House of Representatives, but stressed the lack of a clear and accurate perception so far.
