The Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding )CCCPA(, which serves as the executive secretariat of the Aswan forum, has held a series of preparatory meetings to prepare for the third edition of the Aswan Forum for sustainable peace and development. The event included a workshop on addressing terrorism from an African perspective, and a workshop on forced displacement and sustainable peace in Africa, to discuss ways to address the challenges facing the African continent in these areas and consider innovative long-term measures and solutions that can contribute to addressing them. The first workshop aimed to discuss the global framework for combating terrorism and the enormous challenges facing the international community and the African continent. It also addressed the growing overlap between terrorism and interlocking risks and the imperative of adopting a comprehensive approach that ensures effective participation at the national and local levels. The second workshop also aimed to discuss the challenges related to forced displacement in Africa, including the relationship between climate change and forced displacement and its impact on sustainable peace and development in Africa, as well as the imperative of integrating forced displacement into post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts. Both workshops were attended by high-level officials from a number of African countries and regional and international organizations of the United Nations and the African Union. A number of Egyptian Foreign Ministry officials also participated, in addition to the keenness of many experts, academics and analysts to participate actively in the discussions. Ahmed Abdel Latif, Director General of the CCCPA, said that the outcomes of the two workshops will have an important contribution to enrich a number of topics of discussion during the sessions of the Aswan forum for sustainable peace and development in its third edition, which is expected to be held next year.
