The Permanent Committee for Regulating the Nile Revenue held its periodic meeting on Sunday to follow up on the situation of torrential rains, the position of the Nile's revenue, and the mechanisms of water management and distribution in order to achieve the optimal management of water resources.
The meeting was headed by Mohamed Abdel Aty, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and in the presence of the executive leaders of the ministry and the National Water Research Center.
During the meeting, Abdel Aty stated that the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is making continuous efforts within the framework of a comprehensive vision aimed at providing the necessary water needs for all water-using sectors, both quantitatively and qualitatively.
He pointed out that these efforts would be reflected positively on achieving sustainable development goals and providing services to beneficiaries with the highest degree of justice and effectiveness.
Abdel Aty added that the ministry's agencies are monitoring in real time the rates of rainfall in the sources of the Nile, the hydrological condition of the river, and the determination of the quantities of water reaching the Aswan High Dam lake.
He further stressed the need to continue raising the state of emergency in all departments of the ministry in the governorates to follow up water levels in canals and drains, and to ensure the readiness of the bridge sectors to confront any emergency, and the readiness of all stations and electrical feeding lines feeding them, and emergency mobile units at hot spots.
The minister directed that the committee be in permanent session to take the necessary measures to deal with the heavy rain season and torrential rains, follow up the river's revenue and check on the water situation.
