The Supreme Committee of the Nile Water Flow, presided by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aty, reviewed the water situation in the country and mechanisms of water management to meet the demand of different sectors, as well as the preparations for the torrents season.
During a meeting on Wednesday, Abdel Aty addressed means of achieving the optimum use of our water resources during the period of maximum consumption of water, in order to provide the farmers with the needed water in the agriculture season.
Abdel Aty also reviewed the current water situation in the governorates, and followed up the progress of work in all departments of irrigation, drainage and mechanics, with instructions to raise the state of alert.
He further pointed to the continuation of the gradual reduction of water disposal during the current period, taking into account the meeting of the water needs of all beneficiaries.
Moreover, he also ordered the continuous traffic and follow-up of protection facilities from the dangers of torrential rains and to ensure their readiness to receive rain, in order to protect citizens, cities, villages, strategic installations, roads, towers, power lines and gas lines from the dangers of torrents.
The minister also stated that the ministry's agencies are monitoring the rates of rainfall in the upstreams of the Nile, the hydrological status of the river, and the determination of the quantities of water reaching the lake of the Aswan High Dam.
He pointed out a notable increase in the water fall on the river's upstream has been recorded.
Moreover, Abdel Aty stated that the committee is in a permanent session to follow up on the water position, enabling the ministry's agencies to deal dynamically in managing the water system with the highest degree of efficiency.
Interestingly, Abdel Aty highlighted the need to monitor all forms of encroachments on the Nile River, canals and drains, with immediate and decisive response to such encroachments and removing them in coordination with the concerned state agencies.
He also stressed the need to continue raising the state of emergency in all departments of the ministry in the governorates to follow up water levels in canals and drains, and to ensure the readiness of the bridge sectors to confront any emergency, and the readiness of all stations, electrical feeding lines, and emergency units.
