Egypt's Permanent Committee for Regulating the Nile River Revenue held its periodic meeting, headed by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aty, on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed the position on the River Nile's revenues, as well as the mechanisms of water management and distribution.
The meeting also looked at the measures taken by the ministry to achieve the optimal management of water resources, while maintaining the safe level of the River Nile and its two branches.
During the meeting, Abdel Atty reviewed the procedures for dealing with the current maximum needs period, which coincides with the beginning of the water year.
He noted that the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is making continuous efforts as part of its comprehensive vision to provide the necessary water needs for all water-using sectors.
The minister said that this strategy will reflect positively on achieving sustainable development goals, and providing services to the beneficiaries with the highest degree of justice and efficiency.
"The ministry has also succeeded during the period of maximum needs in managing the water system with the highest degree of efficiency," he said.
Abdel Atty said that the ministry's agencies are: monitoring rainfall upstream on the River Nile; the hydrological status of the river; whilst determining the quantities of water reaching the Aswan High Dam Lake; and discussing different scenarios for flooding.
He added that the committee meets periodically to review the water situation, and deal with the dynamics in the management of the water system. He pointed to an increase in rainfall rates at the sources of the River Nile, with expectations that the level of the Aswan High Dam lake will increase in early August.
