Paid 'protesto' cases in Egypt decline 41.1% in 2020: CAPMAS
Protesto cases reach 3,205 in 2020, down from 5,446 cases in 2019

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has issued its annual report on statistics for "protesto" cases and bankruptcy judgments in 2020.
The most important indicators were as follows:
The number of paid protesto cases reached 3,205 cases in 2020, down from 5,446 cases in 2019, a decrease of 2,241 cases (41.1%).
The debt value of paid protesto cases decreased to EGP 65.7m in 2020, compared to EGP 103.5m in 2019, a decline of EGP 37.8m (36.5%).
The number of non-paid protesto cases reached 9,769 cases in 2020, compared to 11,035 cases in 2019, a decrease of 1,266 cases (11.5%).
The debt value of non-paid protesto cases reached EGP 1bn in 2020, compared to EGP 3.2bn in 2019, a decrease of EGP 2.2bn (68.6%).
Menofeya governorate ranked first in terms of paid protesto cases, recording 543 cases (16.9% of the total number of cases), followed by Cairo by 496 (15.5%), then Giza by 410 cases (12.8%).
Giza ranked first in terms of the debt value of paid protesto cases, where debt value reached EGP 31.3m (47.6% of the total debt value), followed by Cairo by EGP 8.5m (12.9%), then Menofeya by EGP 4.9m (7.5%).
Menofeya ranked first in terms of number of non-paid protesto cases, recording 1,044 cases (10.7% of the total number of cases), followed by Gharbeya by 1,004 cases (10.3%), then Cairo by 954 cases (9.8%),
Moreover, Cairo ranked first in terms of debt value of non-paid Protesto, reaching EGP 569.5m (56.9% of the total value of debt), followed by Giza by EGP 145.6m (14.6%), then Alexsandira by EGP 86.4m (8.6%).
There were no bankruptcy cases in 2020, compared to two cases in 2019.
