El Gouna Film Festival to celebrate renowned Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski

The El Gouna Film Festival will pay tribute to the renowned Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski (1941-1996), marking 25 years since his passing.
The tribute will include special screenings of Kieślowski's most celebrated films and a special retrospective exhibition.
The films will include The Double Life of Véronique (1991), winner of the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival, as well as the Best Actress Award for Irène Jacob.
Also in the line-up is Kieślowski's masterpiece The Three Colors Trilogy (1993, 1994), a collective title of three films named Blue, White, and Red, representing the colours of the French flag. The trilogy is considered his most internationally celebrated and critically acclaimed work to date.
The film Blue won the Golden Lion and the Volpi Cup for Best Actress for Juliette Binoche at the Venice Film Festival, as well as the César Award for Best Sound, Best Film Editing, and Best Actress for Binoche.
Meanwhile, White received the Silver Bear Award at the 1994 Berlin Film Festival, and Red was nominated for three Academy Awards. This included Best Director for Kieślowski, Best Cinematography and Best Original Screenplay, three BAFTA Awards for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film not in the English Language, as well as the Golden Globes for Best Foreign Language Film.
The festival will also showcase A Short Film About Killing (1988) which won both the Jury Prize and the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival, as well as the European Film Award for Best Film.
Born in 1941 in Poland, Kieślowski's early career witnessed his exclusive focus on documentary films, with his breakthrough being his feature drama Camera Buff (1979). In 1988, Kieślowski began working on his 10-part television miniseries, which he called The Decalogue.
He then directed the feature films A Short Film About Love and A Short Film About Killing, based on the critically lauded series. Both films shed international light on the director. They were followed by equally acclaimed The Double Life of Véronique (1991) and then the Three Colors Trilogy.
The El Gouna Film Festival will take place between 14 and 22 October.
