JICA Senior Vice President visits Egypt-Japan School in Borg El Arab 1
Schools help students improve communication skills, adopt healthy habits, and express opinions with respect to others

Kayashima Nobuko, Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), visited the Egypt-Japan School (EJS) of Borg El-Arab 1, on 16 June, as part of her visit to Egypt.
The official was accompanied by Okubo Kyoko, Senior Representative at the JICA Egypt office. The delegation toured the school facilities, such as classrooms, the arts room, gymnasium, and playground, and reviewed some of the student's drawings and paintings.
The EJS Supervisor in charge, Mashimo Satoshi and the school teachers highlighted that the Japanese educational model featured in the special activities known as Tokkatsu helps the students in many ways.
This includes helping students to improve their communication skills, adopt healthy habits, and express their own opinions while respecting others.
At the end of the visit, the school principal Rania Ibrahim presented a souvenir to Kayashima with a note written in Japanese on behalf of all the staff, expressing their respect and appreciation to Japan, and to JICA.
The Borg El Arab 1 EJS is one of the 43 Egyptian-Japanese schools which are now operating in different governorates across Egypt, with another five of these schools expected to be opened next year bringing the total number to 48 schools.
JICA has been supporting the introduction of the Japanese model of education at the EJS under the umbrella of the Egypt-Japan Education Partnership (EJEP). This is through the technical cooperation for transferring the know-how by Japanese experts, as well as through the provision of financial budget support in the form of ODA loan.
