Arab League calls on ICC to take action against Israel violence targeting Palestinians
Comments follow Human Rights Watch report on Israel's crimes of 'apartheid and persecution'
Published in Daily News Egypt on 28 - 04 - 2021

The Arab League has called on the international community, particularly the International Criminal Court (ICC), to take action and practical steps to hold Israel accountable for violent crimes against the Palestinian people.
The regional organisation's call also covered the need to provide international protection for the latter.
The Arab League asked, in a Wednesday statement, for the international community to continue providing all forms of support to help the Palestinians restore their freedom and independence. This would take place by establishing an independent sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Arab League's comments followed the recent report issued by Human Rights Watch (HRW) about Israel's violations to the international law.
The statement read, "We have read the report issued by HRW regarding the Israeli authorities' crimes of apartheid and persecution, which included Israeli violations against the Palestinian people and touched upon the discriminatory policies and regulations imposed by Israel on the Palestinians."
The report concluded that the Israeli authorities are committing two crimes against humanity, that of apartheid, and that of persecution.
The Arab League added that the current situation requires the international community to assume its responsibilities in stopping the chain of suffering and injustice that has befallen the Palestinian people for decades as a result of the Israeli occupation.
The HRW report coincides with the unprecedented escalation of Israeli violations in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially Jerusalem, the plans for Judaisation, settlement expansion, and ethnic cleansing. These come in flagrant defiance of the principles of international law and international resolutions.
