The Engineering Export Council of Egypt (EEC) has announced that exports of six Egyptian-produced engineering products have topped the list of top 10 exporters worldwide in 2019.
The EEC said that the total value of the six, including washing machines, electric heaters, televisions, stoves and copper cables, reached $1.3bn. The 2019 figures also mark a substantial rise on the three engineering products that made the top 10 list in 2018.
The most significant importers of Egyptian engineering products over 2019 were the UK with 11.5%, the UAE with 8.3%, Slovakia 8%. Saudi Arabia followed behind with 6.8%, Hungary with 6.2%, France with 6.1%, Iraq with 4.3%, Algeria with 4.3%, and Libya with 3.6%.
The council noted that it would continue its work in the coming period to support, and enhance Egyptian exporters, whilst providing support to help local exporters overcome obstacles.
This is in addition to opening new markets during the coming period in various countries worldwide.
The Egyptian Exporters Association (Expolink) announced preparations to launch a set of online services as part of an initiative to boost the export sector.
Expolink Chairperson Khaled Al-Mekati said the initiative aims to reformulate Egypt's export system, by setting new and effective implementation mechanisms.
It is aimed at serving the exporters' community whilst contributing to achieving sustainable economic development. The initiative comes in line with technological developments that have revolutionised business and the global economy.
Al-Mekati said that, after an integrated study of the success criterion, Expolink would provide local exporters with an integrated set of digital programmes. These would enable all industrial sectors to access targeted markets worldwide between June and the end of December 2020.
"Expolink will provide Egypt's industrial sectors with innovative and advanced tools in cooperation and integration between export process stages, to promote the distribution and presence of Egyptian manufactured products regionally and globally, as well as, raise efficiency of Egyptian exporters and manufacturers," Al-Mekati said.
It is expected that the Agenda 2020 will organise a number of specialist exhibitions virtually in the coming period. These will include the AgroGate exhibition in September, a specialised exhibition for furniture and hotel supplies in October, and the Destination Africa exhibition in November 2020.
