"Fix it for yourself" is the slogan the Fixawy home services app is using as part of its anti-coronavirus (COVID-19) drive, aiming to keep citizens inside their homes. The startup, launched in collaboration with Germany company, Bosch, launched a video-based service to help its customers undertake their own home repairs without the need for a technician's home visit. The digital appointments ensure that the customer and the technician involved adhere to the government's stay-at-home rules and precautionary measures to protect public health. Amr Ibrahim, CEO and founder of Fixawy, said that the spread of the coronavirus led to panic among clients, with many deciding to postpone home maintenance work. With the large number of cancellations, the application launched a video order service to help customers maintain and repair their homes themselves, simply by following the instructions in the video. Ibrahim added that the customer has a one month window to use the “Video Order” service for free, with the service allowing them to make a video call with a technician. A simple step-by-step maintenance method will then be given to the customer, whether it be plumbing or electricity, until the issue is resolved. Fixawy has started providing its “Video Order” service in four different fields, notably electricity, plumbing, air-conditioning maintenance, and satellite receiver maintenance. Fixawy currently provides its services in Greater Cairo, Alexandria, Tanta, Damanhur, and the North Coast, targeting expansion in other countries in the Middle East. The start-up is set to expand into the Saudi market in 2021.
