Egypt's Armed Forces disinfect major religious institutions against Covid-19
Around 54,948 buildings sterilised, shops closed for violating health requirements: Ministry of Local Development

Egypt's Armed Forces have carried out sterilisation operations in Al Azhar Mosque, Dar Al-Ifta, and Coptic Cathedral against the novel coronavirus, according to a statement by army spokesperson Tamer Al-Rafaei Saturday.
Al-Rafaei said the operations were undertaken using mobile sterilisation vehicles and portable disinfection kits, with disinfectant chemicals approved by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The operations are necessary for places of religious sanctity that are frequented by large numbers of the Egyptian people, the statement noted.
The sterilisation work included disinfection of all installations, facades of buildings, corridors, floors, walls, roofs, offices, and halls, according to the statement.
Sheikh Saleh Abbas, Al Azhar Undersecretary, praised the Armed Forces' efforts in carrying out the sterilisation and preventive disinfection.
In recent weeks, the Egyptian Army undertook a series of measures against coronavirus, such as storing food items and providing training on preventive measures.
The Armed Forces' Fire and Rescue Department has provided 24 firefighting vehicles with antiseptic solutions to sterilise open spaces, including flats and buildings.
Moreover, the Ministry of Local Development on Friday announced that around 54,948 buildings across Egypt have been sterilised and disinfected. It added that 4,257 shops were closed for violating health requirements.
The announcement came as part of a ministry statement regarding efforts made to prevent gatherings, cancel weekly markets, and close tutoring centres – all to help curb the spread of the coronavirus and preserve the safety of citizens.
