The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) agreed with the mobile operators in Egypt to participate equally in providing 250,000 ration bags for the people affected by the preventive measures to counter the spread of the coronavirus, estimated at about one million individuals. The move comes within the framework of the Egyptian Food Bank initiative "Supporting daily labour is a responsibility". The initiative aims to ease the negative economic impacts of the coronavirus. It is also part of the mobile companies' corporate social responsibility in such hard times. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology adopted a set of measures and initiatives to reduce the burden on citizens and facilitate their daily activities amid the strict precautions taken by the state to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Among these measures is supporting distance education during the period of school suspension through increasing bandwidth of fixed broadbands by 20% and providing free access to Knowledge Bank and online educational platforms. The number of post offices operating in the evening (until 18:00) will increase from 350 to 2,000 post offices across the country during the pension disbursement period. Additionally, hotlines launched by the Ministry of Health for inquiry about coronavirus will be free of charge.
