Capital Markets Summit 2020 to focus on non-banking financial services
Published in Daily News Egypt on 09 - 03 - 2020

The fifth edition of Capital Markets Summit will launch 10 March, under the slogan “Better Access Financing”, under the auspices of the ministries of finance and planning, the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), and Misr for Central Clearing, Depository and Registry. The event is organised by Media Avenue.
The annual summit is to be attended by decision-makers, heads and representatives of investment banks in Egypt and the Arab region, heads of banks, financial companies, and major companies in various economic activities, as well as financial institutions, and investors.
The summit will discuss updates of the government's initial public offering programme, in the presence of representatives from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) and the Ministry of Supply.
It also explores opportunities and risks in non-banking financial services and the impact of the expansion in the financial leasing and consumer financing activities on financial markets, and addresses the updates of the commodities exchange launched by the Ministry of Supply and the EGX.
Representatives of the EGX will review the proposed annual market for government bonds in cooperation with the CBE and the new depositary company for the settlement of government debt instruments, as well as the effect of trading these instruments globally through Euroclear in accordance with the agreement signed with the Ministry of Finance.
The summit will have an expanded dialogue with the executive director of Egypt's sovereign wealth fund on the government's plans to partner with the private sector and the ideal model for maximising the value of state-owned public assets. The summit seeks to shed light on the prospects of diversifying the tools of public offerings by the government and the private sector to finance companies through the capital market, and introduce new tools that will deepen the market and its growth.
The summit presents the vision of the information technology sector in providing growth opportunities for non-banking financial services and achieving greater access into those services to larger groups of investors and beneficiaries, while providing pre-existing legislation for new and innovative forms of financing, especially securitisation.
In addition, a special session will be held on how the EGX can recover, and the role of advertising campaigns in raising the awareness of the money market.
