Egypt prioritises education as main pillar of development: Planning Minister
El-Said, Shawky discuss boosting cooperation with IsDB, GPE's representatives

The Egyptian government prioritises the education sector as a key pillar of the country's development process, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said said on Wednesday during a meeting with representatives from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) in the presence of Minister of Education Tarek Shawky.
El-Said added that education is a common goal throughout Egypt Vision 2030, asserting that the government seeks to develop the education sector through a comprehensive strategy whether in general or technical education.
The government realises the importance of establishing partnerships with private sector and civil society, she said, noting that the authorities launched National Investment Charity Fund for Education which aims at offering the needed finance for developing the educational system in Egypt.
For his part, Shawky said that his ministry launched a new education system in all governorates in September, adding that the new system aims at graduating a new generation of students with strong understanding of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and who enjoy high quality skills.
"It's not easy to establish a new educational system as it needs new materials and frameworks which take years to achieve," Shawky mentioned during the meeting.
Additionally, IsDB, and GPE's representatives said that the next period will witness new cooperation programmes in Egypt's educational sector, adding that both organisations focus on the country's impoverished communities.
In April 2019, GPE and IsDB agreed to form an alliance to address global education crisis in developing countries. The two organisations also agreed to jointly promote greater political commitment for education through global, regional, and country-level advocacy and communication efforts, while raising the political profile of education.
