President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi expressed his support for launching a joint e-commerce platform in Africa, as suggested by Bishar Abdirahman Hussein, Director General of the Universal Postal Union.
“We will study this issue in cooperation with the private sector. We are ready to launch this platform. It will be a success for us [Egypt] and for Africa," Al-Sisi said.
Al-Sisi's remarks came during the inauguration of the Cairo ICT exhibition and conference, taking place on 1-4 December at the Egypt International Exhibition Center (EIEC), under the slogan "The Digital Experience."
The president stressed that Egypt has promising digitisation opportunities.
“Egypt is a huge market, with more than 100 million people. We are moving on the digitisation path [as a country] with full power," Al-Sisi said.
He added that digitisation will lead to the success of the Egyptian state, "in governance, combating corruption, reducing human intervention, and administrative and governmental work.”
More than 500 international and local companies are participating in this year edition. Several incorporated event are taking place in parallel, such as the 6th edition of financial inclusion forum (Pafix) and the 4th edition of Innovation Arena whereas participants present creative solutions.
Moreover, the exhibition also hosts the 5th editions of Defense, Security, Public Safety Technology Fair and Forum for the Middle East and Africa (DSS), and Intelli-Cities that offer modern technologies for urban communities and houses.
The president listened to a presentation by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, about the progress of Egypt's digital transformation vision and the new services offered to citizens in this regard.
