Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met on Tuesday with Minister of Defence Mohamed Zaki, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, and head of General Intelligence Service, Abbas Kamel, to discuss the major challenges in Egypt and the region.
Egyptian presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi said in a statement that the Egyptian President also met with several ministers, headed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, to discuss the developments at the international and regional levels, in light of the challenges that threaten the security of the region.
The spokesperson added that the meeting also reviewed the latest developments in the security situation and the fight against terrorism.
Al-Sisi ordered the authorities to continue to maintain security and provide stability for citizens, whether in the fight against terrorism, extremism, or criminal security.
On Saturday, President Al-Sisi extended the state of emergency over Egypt from 27 October for an additional three months.
Presidential decree No. 555 for 2019 was published by the official gazette on Saturday.
According to the decree, the Armed Forces and security are authorised to take the needed procedures to combat terrorism and its funders.
The third article of the decree says that the prime minister is commissioned to perform the presidential specialities regarding the state of emergency.
In accordance with Article 154 of the Constitution, the president of the republic has the right to declare the state of emergency after consultation with the cabinet and approval of the parliament.
"The state of emergency shall be declared for a specified period not exceeding three months, which may only be extended for another similar period after obtaining the approval of two-thirds of the parliament members," the article stipulates.
