GO Mini, Sawa, Smart card: alternatives to ease fuel price increase
Published in Daily News Egypt on 08 - 07 - 2019

The fuel price hike affected transportation prices, but alternative solutions have been introduced to ease the recent increase. Careem Egypt has applied “Go Mini” and “Sawa” new services to facilitate for its customers and reduce the increase in transition costs. Moreover the "Smart card" launched by Transportation Egypt is the other solution to get an EGP 3 reduction.
Careem stated that the services of “Go Mini” and “Sawa” have been lunched in Cairo and other cities through a convenient transport experience, at competitive prices for users of Careem in Egypt, according to Masrawy.
"We have introduced our new services as a suitable alternative for our customers to avoid the increase,", said Careem Egypt's CEO, Wael Abou El-Ela.
The “Go Mini” service, provides small modern cars with lower capacity engines, reducing fuel consumption and car maintenance costs, thus providing the service at more affordable prices.
As for Transportation Egypt, or "Mwasalat Misr" services, it increased by EGP 2 for the mini-bus to reach EGP 10 and for the bus by EGP 1 pound to reach EGP 11 or EGP 13.
However, there is no increase for the EGP 15 ticket. Transportation Egypt service also launched the "Smart card", which is a magnetic subscription card several months ago, which it decided to promote currently, for commuters to get an EGP 3 reduction in the ticket price.
Meanwhile, Careem also decided to expand the "Sawa" service in Cairo after the success in Alexandria at a fixed price and a reduction of up to 40% during the service's first phase.
"Sawa" is a shared ride or carpooling ride type which lets a commuter share an affordable ride with someone going in the same direction. The commuters book a single seat, the second seat gets booked by another commuter.
