Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdel Aaty, received the President of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi, on Sunday, during his visit to the National Water Research Center (NWRC) in Al Qalyubia governorate.

Abdel Aaty briefed the Mozambican president on the water management methods using modern technology, telemetry systems, monitoring and early warning, as well as predicting rain and floods.

Moreover, Khalid Abdel Hay, the head of the centre, introduced a presentation on the centre, which included the basic activity of each of the departments of the centre. He discussed the research of the Nile Research Institute (NRI), which conducts studies on river flow.

He also spoke about the Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI), which is the oldest research institute in the centre, which conducts studies for the research of hydraulic watercourse. The HRI also includes a regional training centre to organise training courses at the African level.

Abdel Hay reviewed the activities of the centre and the most modern devices used in research studies, explaining some of the central laboratory equipment for environmental monitoring and then discussed the sovereignty of the physical models carried out by the HRI to study the Assiut and Dairout barricades.

He also briefed Nyusi on the most important devices that are used at the Institute of Climate Change Research and its Environmental Impacts to study the effects of climate change on water resources. The most important findings of these studies are the effects on the Nile Delta in case of sea level rise and how could natural protection methods reduce the impacts of the expected sea level rise.

The minister of irrigation referred to the importance of the research carried out by the centre in managing the water system in Egypt and Africa in the framework of the distinguished relations with the countries of the continent.

The visit also included discussions on the cooperation of the centre with African countries.
