Egypt's Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly decided Tuesday to establish a Permanent Supreme Committee for Human Rights to respond to allegations made against Egypt in this regard. The committee will also follow-up on human rights conditions in Egypt and ensure the implementation of Egypt's existing international obligations with respect to human rights. It will also develop a national strategy for human rights and plans for implementing them. It will also set a unified vision to be promoted in international and regional forums. The committee will also be responsible for formatting reports Egypt's human rights before being submitted to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and follow up on the implementation of the recommendations. Parliament members have praised the move. MP Sherif al-Wardani, said that the formation of the Permanent Supreme Committee for Human Rights is a good step in response to the allegations raised against Egypt in this regard. He called for the commission's follow-up on human rights in Egypt in order to clarify the truth to the whole world. Egypt has been exposed to several criticisms by foreign media over human rights allegations, all of which were all later denounced by the State Information Service (SIS).
