Thai embassy organises cooking experience for Egyptians to promote its cuisine
One of Thai government's main strategies is to globally raise awareness of its food

The Embassy of Thailand in Cairo organised on Tuesday a cooking experience for Egyptians to promote its cuisine, in the presence of Thai Ambassador Chainarong Keratiyut-wong, embassy staff, and Thai cultural and business community persons.
The Thai ambassador said that the embassy aims to raise Egyptian consumers' awareness of Thai cuisine with its diversified recipes and ingredients by providing them a live experience in which they try cooking the Thai dishes themselves.
“Thai cuisine is well-known for its spiciness, with som tam, which is a spicy papaya salad, and other famous dishes; however, the secret of Thai food is a balance of five flavours, which are sour, sweet, salty, bitter, and spicy,” added the ambassador.
Some dishes are served with other side dishes to help deal with the overpowering spiciness, the ambassador noted, adding, “tom yum goong, which is a sour and spicy dish, is always served with an omelette or rice.”
The ambassador mentioned that Thai dishes enjoy great variety, in both main dishes and desserts, according to geographical location, clarifying, “northern Thai meals use spicy chilli paste with fresh vegetables and soups, while north-eastern Thai meals are famous for sticky rice, and southern Thai is well-known for its hot and spicy flavours.”
The ambassador said that one of the Thai government's main strategies is to globally raise awareness of its food under the slogan “Kitchen to the World”, as the nation's food has already acquired a remarkable acceptance for its distinctiveness and exoticness, spreading all over the world.
