Egypt condemned the shootout and hostage situation that occurred in a supermarket in Trèbes, south of France, in a statement from its Foreign Ministry on Friday. The incident resulted in the death of four people and the wounding of others, according to a statement from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry statement asserted that Egypt stands with the French government and people in the fight against terrorism, sending the Egyptian government and people's condolences to victims' relatives and wishing a speedy recovery for those who were wounded in the attack. The ministry added that those terror attacks will not stop France and its international partners from countering terrorism. The statement stressed that Egypt will continue its efforts and coordination with the international community for combating terrorism and its sources of funding. On Saturday, police officer Arnaud Beltrame, who was the first to respond to the attack, died from sustained injuries, French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said in a statement. The attacker also died, and 15 others were wounded in the attack. The attacker reportedly pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group, before being killed by police. Moreover, Al-Azhar, Sunni Islam's highest seat of learning, condemned the attack and stressed the sanctity of blood. In a statement, Al-Azhar called for countering terrorism that threatens the whole world. The statement went on to affirm that the situation requires exerting greater international efforts to combat terror groups.
