The first place winner won a financial reward of EGP 30,000, the second place winner won EGP 20,000, and the third won EGP 10,000. The team organising the championship honoured a number of teams that took part in the championship.
Last Thursday, Shell and Egypt Automotive have both concluded the events of the Ramadan championship for football in the Egyptian automotive sector in a first-of-a-kind initiative for the Egyptian auto market, with BMW and Ssang Yong competing for the title, and Volkswagen and Auto21 competing for the third place.
For the first time, 16 teams from different automotive companies were competing for three weeks on the Shell-Automotive Cup, according to Mohamed Aboul Fotouh, the chief executive of Egypt Automotive.
Aboul Fotouh said that the championship stems from the keenness of two companies, Egypt Automotive and Shell Oil, to maintain communication with all workers in the Egyptian auto sector and create new competitiveness among employees.
Aboul Fotouh explained that the cooperation between Egypt Automotive and Shell Oil stresses the strategic partnership between the two companies, where Shell Oil is considered the main sponsor of the annual conference of car manufacturing in Egypt, which is held in December every year and organised by Egypt Automotive.
Among the teams that took part in the championship were Brilliance, Ford, Nissan-Egypt, Nissan-Africa, Skoda, Ssang Yong, Renault, BMW, and Jaguar Land Rover, in addition to Flyin, which is a leading company in the field of tourism, travel, and electronic services.
Khaled Seif, consumer marketing manager at Shell Egypt, said the company is largely interested in the Egyptian automotive sector and that it always seeks to offer all new products to its customers and companies out of its keenness to offer the best it can.
The championship is based on the system of groups, where four of those are comprised of four teams, and these compete in the preliminary round on the first and second places for each group competing in the quarterfinals and semifinals. The championship was opened with strong participation from the companies taking part in the championship with a public draw followed by a show performed by the Egyptian and Arab championship "Yok", who entertained the attendees with his multiple skills in controlling the ball. The performance was followed by a match between the media team, lead by Khaled Abaza, the general supervisor on the Egyptian cars supplement at Al-Masry Al-Youm and the team of companies led by Seif of Shell Egypt. During the match, the media team won the match 3-1, concluding the events of the first day.
Nissan, Volkswagen, Auto21, Shell, Subaru, Ssang Yong, BMW, and MTI were qualified to the quarterfinals and semifinals, which ended in the wining of Ssang Yong, Volkswagen, BMW, and Auto21.
