CAIRO: The opposition Muslim Brotherhood on Thursday warned that Israeli warplanes that flew over Syria last week carried a powerful message to Arab leaders, a statement from the Islamist group said. A note to Arab leaders: the (Israeli) warplanes that flew over the Syrian president s presidential palace in (northern Syria) carried a powerful message to all of them, highlighting a new Zionist method of dealing with Arab regimes, said Mohammed Mahdi Akef, the group s supreme guide in a statement. Last week, Israeli warplanes flew over Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad s palace in northern Syria while the leader was inside. The operation was a way for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to prove the long arm of the Israeli army, said a report by Israel s private Channel 10 television. Israel accuses Syria of giving support and protection to Islamist movement Hamas. The Palestinian people need a supportive and strong Arabic stance, said Akef who called on Arabs and Muslims to mobilize in protest of the abandonment of Arab regimes of the Palestinian people. The security of all Arab countries is directly related to the security of the Palestinians, he said. The Muslim Brotherhood, which is officially banned in Egypt, fielded candidates as independents in the 2005 legislative elections and gained 20 percent of seats, making it the largest opposition bloc in parliament.
