South Sinai governor Khaled Fouda received on Sunday evening an Italian delegation from the Italian Egyptian Friendship Council, which is making an exclusive visit to the touristic city of Sharm El-Sheikh for the sake of fostering bilateral relations between Egypt and Italy, state-run newspaper Akhbar Al-Youm reported.
The Italian delegation praised the security performance inside Sharm El-Sheikh Airport and the city, saying that the security system is more powerful compared to that in some European countries, the newspaper said.
According to the newspaper, the Italian delegation visit aims to exchange investments and projects between Egypt and Italy that will improve companies' performance inside both countries.
Moreover, the delegation signed a twinning agreement between the city of Sharm El-Sheikh and an Italian city for the sake of turning Sharm El-Sheikh into the first digital economy city in the Middle East.
On his side, the South Sinai governor asserted on the importance of the return of Italian tourism to the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, asking the Italian delegation to transfer the positive stereotype they have interacted with during their visit.
In October 2016, a bilateral protocol was signed between Egypt and Italy under the auspice of the Italian Co-operation Council. The protocol included the establishment of universities, exchange students, teaching staff, and common research projects.
The visit of the Italian delegation to Sharm El-Sheikh came following a tour it conducted in Egypt's capital, Cairo, where they met with Higher Education Minister Khalid Abdel Gaffar to discuss the possibility of establishing the Italian University in Egypt.
They also discussed the establishment of a branch to the university in South Sinai governorate. Moreover, the delegation suggested to the Egyptian Electricity Minister the establishment of a centre to develop the digital work in the electronic outlets used in the fields of energy and tourism.
