Published in Daily News Egypt on 08 - 02 - 2017

Ahmed Darwish, chairperson of the Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone during his visit to Poland, to create a Polish industrial zone at the Suez Canal area.
The signing was attended by Egyptian ambassador to Poland, Hossam El-Kaweish, minister plenipotentiary of trade at the embassy, Abdul Aziz Al-Sharif, and a number of major companies operating in the region.
Darwish said in a statement that he held two tours of the headquarters of the port of Gdansk authority, which is considered the largest port on the Baltic Sea, as well as the headquarters of the technological park affiliated to the Polish economic zone. The visit was meant to inform the minister of the nature of activities and services offered in the port, as well as the existing industries in the technological park.
Darwish held several meetings with Polish officials, including the deputy minister of economic development, the vice prime minister, and the deputy foreign minister for international cooperation and the Middle East and Africa affairs, as well as the head of Warsaw regional government. In addition, Darwish met with a number of representatives of Polish companies wishing to invest in Egypt in the fields of plastic container manufacturing, construction, and others.
Darwish expressed his happiness with the visit, which aims to pave the road for the establishment of an industrial zone in the Suez Canal area, which is considered a good addition to the region and existing projects, adding that he is looking forward to more Polish investments in the region.
In July 2016, the Suez Canal Economic Zone received a Polish delegation from the Polish embassy, including Philip Mibenge, president of the Polish-African Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
