After winning the World Weightlifting Championship in Dubai in 2016 and hitting the record number 135.5, the 43-year-old legendary Egyptian Paralympics weightlifter Fatma Omar won the World Weightlifting Cup for disabled athletes in Malaysia, where the members of the Egyptian Embassy in Malaysia were present to support Omar.
Omar is a member of the Egyptian national weightlifting team for disabled female's athletes and was accompanied by Emad Bahgat, the coach of the Egyptian team in this championship. She won the under 61 kg's division after lifting 126 kg.
Due to this victory, Omar qualified for the 2016 Rio's Summer Paralympics Games to be held after the 2016 Rio's Summer Olympic Games from 7 to 18 September. Omar is ranked the first internationally in the sport after this victory.
Omar previously won three gold medals in the 2000 Sydney's Summer Paralympics, 2004 Athens' Summer Paralympics, and 2008 Beijing's Summer Paralympics, each. In the 2012 London's Summer Paralympics, Omar won her fourth Paralympics gold medal in the 56 kilos division, setting a new international record.
Before Dubai's tournament, Omar was banned for years, which was supposed to stop her from participating in the 2016 Rio's Summer Paralympics. The Egyptian Paralympics Committee had banned her, claiming that she was using banned substances.
Minister of Youth and Sports Khaled Abdel-Aziz investigated the issue and Omar will represent Egypt in the upcoming Paralympics Games.
