Negotiations over establishment of Dabaa nuclear plant ongoing: Minister of Electricity
$6m investments to launch solar power plant with 4 MW in Congo
Published in Daily News Egypt on 21 - 02 - 2016

Egyptian minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, said the ministry is still negotiating with Russia's Rosatom over technical, financial, and technological agreements to establish the first Egyptian nuclear power plant in the Dabaa area.
He told Daily News Egypt the Russian offer has better features than other offers from French, Chinese, and Korean companies. The offer includes providing nuclear fuel supply to the nuclear power plant throughout its operating period, which is estimated to be 60 years. In addition, it will be responsible for the management of spent nuclear fuel, operation and maintenance, and training human resources.
The government contracted with the Russian company to establish four nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 4,800 MW and 1,200 MW from each.
Shaker explained that the planned power plants are safe, especially as Rosatom provides an unrivaled protection system called VVER-1200 against internal and external factors and influences.
President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met Chairman of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko in June, when the nuclear plant's appendix of contracting terms and guide prices of EPC + FINANCE system was submitted. The Ministry of Electricity will launch solar power plant in Congo with capacity of 4 MW and 2 MW per plant with a total investment of $6m.
Shaker pointed out that Egypt supports Congo by sending Egyptian technical experts in the field of renewable energy.
This project comes in the framework of the Egyptian initiative for the development of the Nile Basin countries. More than 7,000 technicians and engineers from all African countries were trained in the fields of electricity, aquatic plants, and renewable energy from 2003 until 2015.
