Wadi Degla Holding Company has begun implementing a number of projects in partnership with the government in order to activate its corporate social responsibility strategy, according to a Tuesday statement.
Wadi Degla is contributing funding and assistance in implementing expansion works in Zahraa El Maadi tunnel, with a cost of approximately EGP 22m, according to the company's CEO Maged Helmy.
The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Cairo governorate, Helmy said.
Helmy added that the expansion works aim to facilitate the flow of traffic in the areas of Maadi, Zahraa El Maadi and Katameya, as well as to reduce traffic congestion in the Autostrad area.
Wadi Degla has recently developed River Walk Square in New Cairo, positioned in front of the company's compound, Helmy noted, adding that the company funded and implemented the project entirely.
In June 2015, Wadi Degla signed a cooperation agreement with a non-profit development institution to implement five projects in five governorates: Assiut, Sohag, Minya, Cairo, and Matrouh.
Each project seeks to train 500 workers in various professions, which will guarantee the introduction of 2,500 individuals to labour market, Helmy noted, adding that projects will be determined according to the needs of every governorate.
Helmy highlighted that Wadi Degla directly employs 6,000 persons. He added that the company targets to increase the number of direct and indirect labourers to 12,000 over the coming period.
Moreover, the company has recently developed an orphanage in Obour City, a part of Face Institution, which assists orphans and homeless children in Egypt, Helmy highlighted.
