Published in Daily News Egypt on 03 - 10 - 2015

Suez Canal traffic data showed that 365 ships, with total cargo of 20.9m tonnes, have transited through the canal last week.
The average number of ships transiting the canal reached 52 per day last week, with an average cargo weight of 3m tonnes per day. The average cargo weight per ship reached 57, 300 tonnes.
The largest cargo in a ship weighed 200,400 tonnes, and this number was repeated in three other container ships affiliated to Danish company Maersk.
Traffic growth in the Suez Canal is mainly calculated through the amount of cargo, as transit fees are calculated based on the amount of cargo that each ship contains.
About 179 ships travelling from the West transited the canal, passing through from the Port Said entrance in the North. The daily average of those ships was 26, with 9.9m tonnes in cargo and a daily average of 1.4m tonnes.
About 186 ships transited the new canal from the southern entrance, with a daily average of 26 ships, and a total cargo of 11m tonnes with a daily average of 1.6m tonnes.
A table illustrating traffic in the Suez Canal from 25 September to 1 October. Cargo is in million tonnes:
