Policeman, 2 suspects killed in fire exchange in Haram district
Several policemen were injured during attack

Two unknown assailants were shot dead after an exchange of fire in the Haram district of the Giza governorate, on Friday morning, which also resulted in the death of one policeman.
Policemen were attempting to arrest the assailants, who already have a criminal record, a Ministry of Interior statement said.
The two assailants, who have become known for their use of violence as reported by residents of the neighbourhood in which they lived, attacked the police force. They caused the death of policeman Tamer Ahmed Ramdan, using a sharpened weapon, and wounded others using firearms, the ministry said.
Police officers at the Haram police station shot the two assailants dead after an exchange of fire. This came after the commanding officer in Haram police department requested from supporting police forces to control the situation.
Attacks on police and military forces in Egypt have become increasingly common, witnessing the killings of an estimated seven policemen during the last two to three months, according to media reports.
Police stations have also been subjected to several attacks. The most recent attack occurred last week, when unknown assailants fired at a police car along the Fayoum-Beni Suef road on Monday, injuring four policemen.
The Revolutionary Punishment militant group is one of the most active groups claiming attacks on policemen and officials. Fayoum has seen some of the worst violence, with attacks occurring on an almost weekly basis, leaving many injuries, among them police and security personnel.
