Sameh Kamal sworn in as new Administrative Prosecution head
Major efforts need to be undertaken to reserve public funds, says Kamal

Counselor Sameh Kamal was sworn in by the presidency as chief of the Administrative Prosecution on Tuesday.
Kamal affirmed the substantial role of the Administrative Prosecution in countering corruption, and achieving administrative and financial discipline across different state institutions, the presidency's office reported.
Kamal also asserted during his meeting with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi that the current phase requires "major efforts to reserve public funds and maintain the quality of governmental performance".
Kamal's appointment comes following a conflict between him and another candidate, counselor Hesham Mehanna, for the position, after the death of the former administrative authority president. Mehanna was expected to succeed as president as he is the oldest in age, according to Law 117/1958. However, Kamal was appointed according to the majority of votes made by the supreme judicial council members.
Meanwhile, Al-Sisi granted the presidential honour award to the late counselor Anany Abdel-Aziz, who was the president of the Administrative Prosecution, in recognition of his efforts during his term. The award was received by his son.
According to the 2014 constitution, the Administrative Prosecution is an independent judicial body supervised by the Supreme Judicial Council that investigates and supervises corruption reports by citizens. It also investigates corruption cases related to senior politicians.
In April, a report released by one of the workers in the Administrative Prosecution stated that former Mubarak figures, including former prime minister Ahmed Nazif, former finance minister Youssef Boutros Ghaly, have squandered billions in public funds.
