The smart phone market in Egypt witnessed a retreat in the sales of dual-SIM smart phones at the end of October to reach 70.9% of the total market sales compared to 75% last August. According to a report by GFK, the total sales of dual-SIM smart phones reached 463,400 devices out of a total of 653,800 devices sold during October, while single-SIM devices' share was 190,000 devices. Despite this retreat, dual-SIM devices continued to dominate the larger share of market sales, reaching 73.3% of market sales of smart phones locally during the first 10 months of 2014, as opposed to only 26.7% for single-SIM devices. Sales of dual-SIM devices reached 3.9m devices, while sales of single-SIM devices reached 1.5m devices. According to the report, the value of dual-SIM smart phones sold in the period between January and October 2014 reached EGP 4.5bn, with a share percentage of 59.7% of the total value of smart phone sales during the first ten months of 2014, while the value of single-SIM devices' sales reached EGP 3.09bn with a share percentage of 40.3%. Statistics in the GFK report revealed an increasing control of dual-SIM smart phones over market sales in terms of financial value, to reach 62.3% during October, with a sales value of EGP 549m, as compared to EGP 505m for last August, with a share percentage that reached 60.4%. Single-SIM devices continued to lose part of their market share, which retreated from 39.6% during last August, with a sales value of EGP 331m then, to reach a share of 37.7% last October, achieving a sales value of EGP 332m from total market sales of EGP 881m that month.
