One soldier and one police conscript were killed in two separate militant attacks on Friday, a military spokesman said in a Saturday statement. The soldier was shot in a drive-by shooting in Al-Arish during the afternoon, while the conscript was killed in an ambush that led to a fire fight at a checkpoint on the Suez road in the evening. Three members of the security forces were also injured in the attack along the Suez road. Other attacks against security forces occurred across Egypt; on Friday morning, a police officer was killed in a drive-by shooting in Minya whilst on his way to work, alongside a bombing outside of a police officer's club. The attacks constitute the latest in a low level insurgency that has swept across Egypt since the ouster of former president and Muslim Brotherhood politician Mohamed Morsi. On Thursday, an explosion injured five police officers outside a club in the Nile Delta city of Tanta, and last week 11 security personnel were killed when their convoy hit a land mine in North Sinai. The security forces are regularly raiding militant hideouts, mostly in North Sinai, in response to the attacks. The most recent raid occurred 9 September, which saw two militants killed. According to the foreign ministry more than 900 people have been killed in attacks by militant groups since the 25 January Revolution.
