Foreign ministry discusses development
Published in Daily News Egypt on 03 - 09 - 2013

Foreign ministry official Hisham Badr discussed with UN and other international agency representatives the most recent events in Egypt as well as ways to support development in the country.
In a statement released by the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, Badr, who serves as assistant for international organizations, said that Egypt is currently doing a comprehensive review of all UN activities to evaluate how much they match the current goals of the Egyptian government, a process which is carried out under close coordination with the relevant ministries.
The foreign ministry statement said that United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative Anita Nirody said there are 26 specialized organizations with resident representatives as well as eight non-resident organizations that are cooperating to help fight poverty and offer basic services and food security and nutrition.
Badr and the representatives agreed to speed up several projects and programmes that benefit the Egyptian citizen, "especially the neediest groups," such as the school nutrition project and a healthcare project that focuses on disease prevention.
Badr expressed Egypt's expectation that movements happen at a faster pace in the light of the economic circumstances in the country and the importance of providing proper funding for these projects.
Badr also "asserted the dedication of the Egyptian people to not go backwards to the time before the 2011 Revolution or before the June 30 Revolution," the statement read.
He also asserted that the transitional government is committed to the "democratic path."
Ever since the 3 July removal of former President Mohamed Morsi, the foreign ministry has tasked envoys and diplomats to meet with officials across the world to explain to them the situation inside Egypt and how the "30 June Revolution" is the "design of the Egyptian people."
