The Muslim Brotherhood is "studying" initiatives for national reconciliation proposed by "respectable intellectual symbols," according to a statement on Saturday. According to the statement, although the Brotherhood is "an integral part of the Pro-Legitimacy, Anti-Coup National Alliance" it cannot issue a final decision regarding the initiatives without extensive discussion with the alliance. The Brotherhood noted that it "deeply appreciates the sincere patriotic stands" of the respectable political figures in Egypt "who are determined to restore constitutional legitimacy." Several reconciliation initiatives have been proposed by prominent politicians; Abdel Moneim Abul Fotouh proposed holding a referendum to gauge approval of the roadmap and Mohamed Selim Al-Awwa proposed the appointment of a new prime minister who is "approved by everyone" and has the powers of the president. Al-Nour Party and Al-Watan Party announced their approval of Al-Awwa's initiative but may propose some adjustments. Al-Nour said the only solution is through dialogue and urged everyone to be flexible regarding their demands in order to maintain the unity and stability of Egypt, reported state-owned Al-Ahram. The Al-Tayar Al-Sha'aby also issued a statement Saturday expressing their appreciation to any initiative offered by anyone that aims at avoiding further bloodshed and respects the will of the people.
