"Egyptians will not accept a political role for the army now, or in the future," Muslim Brotherhood media spokesman Gehad Al-Haddad claimed in a statement released on the party's website Sunday morning. He added that supporters of "constitutional legitimacy" did not fear death, and that they stand "unarmed" in a number of squares across Egypt. The statement comes after military aircraft dropped thousands of printed flyers over Rabaa al-Adaweya, where supporters of ex-president Mohammed Morsi have gathered to demand his return. The flyers, which were dispersed late on Friday, addressed demonstrators directly, according to state-owned al-Ahram. "No-one in Egypt can doubt your patriotism, belonging and loyalty to this country," the flyers reportedly said. "Measures taken were not against you, nor did they aim to belittle your role in the path of this country," the message continued, stating that if demonstrators wished to leave they would not be "tracked down". Al-Haddad claimed that the military had "alienated" themselves by levelling their rifles at the "chests of the sons and daughters of this homeland," and called for demonstrations in "all Cairo squares" on Monday "in peaceful protest against the military coup." Tahrir Square, he added, was not part of the protest plan.
