Shubra violence suspects detained
Published in Daily News Egypt on 23 - 03 - 2013

Prosecutors in North Cairo ordered on Saturday holding Gamal Saber's two sons in custody for investigation on charges of murder and possessing firearms during the violent clashes that broke out in Shubra on Monday, which resulted in the death of three people.
Wael Hussein, general prosecutor for North Cairo, ordered the imprisonment of Saber's sons Ahmed and Abdo for four days pending investigation, while Saber's brother was released from custody on bail. The defendants are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, owning firearms, and assault.
Saber is the head of the Salafi Al-Ansar Party and coordinator of Hazemoon group supporting disqualified Salafi presidential candidate Hazem Salah Abu Ismail.
Saber's sons denied all charges and claimed they were not involved in the clashes although they did witnessed them. Saber's brother Mohamed claimed he was not in Shubra during the clashes, adding that Saber and his sons have nothing to do with the three deaths that resulted from the fighting, according to state-owned Al-Ahram.
Clashes broke out in Shubra on Monday after a fight resulted in the death of 15-year-old Ahmed Dorra and two others. Eyewitnesses claimed Saber's son Ahmed was responsible for Dorra's death.
On Tuesday, Saber himself was arrested for his alleged involvement in the clashes. The prosecution ordered that Saber be detained for four days pending investigation, reported Al-Ahram.
Three other people alleged to have been involved in the street fight were also arrested along with one person from the nearby Al-Assal neighbourhood.
The arrested were detained at Rod Al-Farrag Police Station and were transferred to the prosecution on Wednesday.
